Albino crossing

Post by DXcus » 16 Mar 2009, 10:49

Hi Sir Andrew,

following some tips on genetics in your book "Naked truth" regarding to further refine albinos....

just a question for you and for anybody who has experience.
if i cross an albino x non albino lets example :
a strain like albino turqx leopard full spot.

result will surely be
F1 - turq with few spotting albino intermmediates
next
if i outcross F1 intermmediates with another full spot leopard

F2 albino leopard intermmediate better spotting

question if F2 were in bred will any albino come out?

Maybe and maybe not. 50% of the F2 generetion will carry the albino gene. The problem is that you cannot know which, you have to breed different F2 fish until albinos will show up.

First cross:

Albino x normal aa x NN

F1 will be

Na

The normal gene is dominant.

Next cross

Na x NN

"F2"

50% Na, 50% NN

"F3"

Now you have to hope to take 2 of the fish with the albino gene, if you do there will be 25 % albinos in the bach.
3 out of 4 pairs you choose will not produce any albinos.

Very well explained.

But I would say that Albonism is recessive while the normal turquoise is not necessary Dominant. So far, there is no dominance in the normal strain or species......while I have tried to explain in my new book.

IT is very hard for me to explain here in short.....sorry,
