Re: Infection(s)
Stan,
Make sure that that discus is insensitive to touch or handling.
If it dashes continuously.....like a dash followed by another and yet another....it might be because of fright or some other parasites.
As for both the example given earlier, they become lethargic and insensitive to touch...during their final stage leading to mortality.
Another thing, as for the viral infection, it doesn't spiral or whirl around its axis but just at near surface....
Even if you push its head down, it will resurface within seconds.
On the other hand, if it is due to flagellate, it can be at the surface or at the bottom of tank after the spin or dash.
Take care,
Andrew

Re: Infection(s)
Thanks Andrew for the tip. I did get one or two cases every year.
Just afraid it's a lingering and infectious type of disease. Happens to my altums [twice] and a lot of sudden deaths at one point for smaller fishes. Mostly wild species for planted tank.
As for discus, dashing is common but most like from either fear or parasites rather.
Will lookout for the medication you mentioned.

Re: Infection(s)
Yes is the short answer. Sometimes you have to ask is it the right thing to do though.
Re the worst infection for a discus . . .that it easy . . it is man!
What I mean is how many 'unhappy discus' die due to incorrect/over use of meds and people not respecting the needs of discus?
Too many IMHO.
