Indentify Heckel, please.
I've recently purchased this group of 13 young Heckel and the importer/seller claimed the were caught in what he said "Rio Nivi".. I've never heard of the place/river and I'm not able to find any info on the internet.
Mr. Bleher, if it's not to much to ask.. can you please identify the species, age and possible place of capture, thank you very much.

Hi,
sorry for the late answer. Ver nice Heckel discus - BUT PLEASE give them fine white sand - that they need.
These are definitely from the Rio Marimari system, you can see them also in my book on page 177, immediately after collecting (therefore the over-all colour in my book is somewhat darker, but the stripes and pattern is typical).
best regards and keep up the good work (by adding fine sand... and some shade).

Thanks a lot Mr Bleher!
Photos are from the dealers tank, I wouldn't dream of having pebbles in my tanks.
The information you provided is very important for my tank set-up, now I know that it's not going to be a Rio Negro blackwater tank. The Rio Madeira (Marimari) system is, from what I know, a whitewater stream with slightly higher pH than the Rio Negro system. This is indeed essential info for the wellbeing of my heckels.
I tilt my hat...

Re: Indentify Heckel, please.
Hi Ouscazz,
I really wonder (or better: must wonder), that there are still people around believing that there are discus found in the muddy waters of the Rio Madeira...This is a Degen/Goebel/Glaser invention because they never went there. There is no such thing... You should really look and read my book to understand wilds (at least)...
The Rio Marimari is an affluent of the Rio Abacaxís which again drains into the Urariá. No connection to the Madeira,
best regards

The book is second best, but it won't get you dehydrated, overheated and eaten by mosquitos ;)
